Senior Metallurgist

Works independently, with ability in at least three major areas of mill operations and/or Technical Services (Primary, Rolling and Finishing, Heat Treatment, Product Metallurgy), providing coverage in multiple areas as needed.

Develops operating practices to produce quality steel products meeting or exceeding industry standards and customer requirements.

Reviews manufacturing practices on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with established operating practices.

Trains and coaches less experienced personnel in at least one major area of mill operations and/or Technical Services

Design, execution and reporting of product development and quality improvement trials.

Interprets data and makes recommendations to Operations management and may provide guidance on technical direction and data interpretation on projects assigned to others

Proactively initiates changes to avoid quality-related problems and/or improve processes to increase profitability

Provides input on capital expenditures in area of responsibility.

Represents Technical Services on projects to build new production or systems capabilities.

May work with Sales to respond to inquiries, develop production plans and certify material.

May provide assistance to maintenance or engineering on materials selection and fabrication techniques.

May represent Company on external technical committees and/or industry associations.
