The Process Development Engineer will be responsible for the development of casting and extrusion related process development for increased productivity, production of new alloys, and the introduction of new products. This will entail casting practice development, extrusion practice development, determination of the viability of new processes, and validation of performance in both developmental and production scale introductions.

 

The Process Engineer’s essential functions include:

  • Develop casting practices for new alloy and casting tooling.
  • Develop extrusion processes for new product introductions.
  • Coordinate with Application Engineers to develop solutions relative to market and customer wants.
  • Provide technical expertise with respect to the assessment and optimum equipment selection of potential capital projects.
  • Assess the performance of capital investments from a quality and productivity standpoint and help to resolve issues to achieve the expected investment goals.
  • Assess the performance of existing equipment and processes to determine opportunities for improvement and lead the implementation of these solutions.

This is a new role that was created due to a major growth surge in the company’s IGT casting business. This role will be responsible for building & leading a team of Product Engineers, with a heavy focus on NPI (new product introduction) over the next five years. Not only will this be a customer-facing position, but the Engineering Manager will also advise the Operations team on solutions to the challenges these complex-core investment castings entail.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible to be the main point of contact and provide technical support to a key Industrial Gas & Turbine (IGT) customer
  • Act as the subject matter expert for investment castings, assisting the operations & quality teams as issues or questions are raised.
  • Drive new product introduction (NPI) qualification activities, ensuring that internal teams are on track to meet customer commitments.
  • Partner with tooling vendors to ensure that all necessary tool/die and wax patterns for various complex core castings.
  • Monitor casting manufacturing processes to ensure products produced meet dimensional and metallurgical specifications from our customer.
