Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing metallurgical expertise and technical support throughout all phases of material processing and manufacturing. The role partners closely with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Commercial teams to ensure robust metallurgical processes, product quality, and compliance with customer specifications. The position also leads and supports the development of new aerospace-grade alloys, materials, and processing technologies while driving continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties may be performed directly or through delegated oversight of others. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve metallurgical processes, controls, and procedures to support product development, process optimization, and compliance with customer requirements.
- Lead the metallurgical development and qualification of new alloy grades, products, and manufacturing processes.
- Review and analyze customer inquiries, specifications, and technical requirements for existing and new products.
- Provide metallurgical expertise and technical problem-solving support across all phases of operations, including melting, casting, forging, heat treatment, testing, and finishing processes.
- Evaluate, test, and analyze alloy properties, including mechanical, thermal, microstructural, and corrosion-resistant characteristics, to optimize product quality and performance.
- Conduct failure investigations and root cause analyses of nonconforming material, process deviations, and mechanical test failures, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Author, review, and approve technical reports, material specifications, certifications, procedures, and development documentation.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Research & Development, and Manufacturing teams to improve process capability, product performance, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Interpret metallurgical data, laboratory results, and production trends to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor industry developments, technical publications, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and expansion of the company's product portfolio.
- Support customer audits, technical reviews, and qualification activities as required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace, industry, customer, and regulatory standards.
