Provide engineering support to the Foundry, coordinate efforts between the Foundry and departments with direct interaction: Metallurgical Lab, Product Engineering, Maintenance and Health and Safety. Work with Product Engineering in the development of processes and procedures for new product development or process improvements for existing products. Stay current on technological developments in the industry. Identify root causes of process variation and improve procedures and equipment to reduce variation. Identify casting related defects and their root causes. Institute corrective actions to reduce or eliminate the occurrence of defects. Coordinate repairs or improvements of equipment with necessary departments, internal or external. Provide strong technical developmental support for foundry employees. Utilize FMEA, DFMEA and DOE's to drive improvement in foundry and engineering processes. Communicate directly with customers or vendors to resolve technical issues, when requested or required. Job Summary: The Melt Shop Manager of Melting is responsible for all aspects of the steel melting operations.  This includes the functioning of the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgical Furnace (LMF) and the overseeing of all Scrap processes.  The Manger of Melting oversees all aspects of the operations to ensure that production goals are met in a safe and efficient manner. The Foundry Process Engineer provides engineering and metallurgical support to the Foundry acting as a key liaison between the Foundry, Metallurgy and Product Engineering. A primary goal of the position is to identify process control improvement opportunities and to develop and implement those opportunities. This includes identifying the root cause of process variation and methods and practices to reduce that variation. It also includes identifying the root cause of defects and scrap and deploying corrective actions that reduce or eliminate the chance of reoccurrence. The Foundry Process Engineer collaborates with Foundry, Metallurgy, and Engineering personnel to identify these problems, opportunities, and solutions and is a primary conduit of communication between departments on these issues. This includes capturing input from all stakeholders to insure practices, procedures, and methods are executable in a safe manner. The Foundry Process Engineer develops and maintains knowledge of industry best practices and new and emerging metal casting technology, and recommends technologies or techniques for adoption.
