Seeking a Metallurgical/Materials Engineer to work with a team of materials engineers to support the design, manufacture, and life cycle of a variety of aerospace and space engine system components. Use analysis techniques including scanning electron microscopy, optical interferometry, and metallography to perform failure analyses and process qualifications and investigations. Leverage your materials expertise to be a part of the development team for the next generation of aircraft engines and space propulsion systems.

What you will be doing

Use materials engineering knowledge to work with internal, customer, and supplier engineers -supporting the development and processing of aerospace components.

Performs less-simple failure analysis to answer specific questions, generally more than single component analysis and including some operational factors.

Performs tests such as intergranular attack, viscosity, and specific gravity, salt fog, microstructure evaluation of various metals and macro/microhardness testing, carbide, and other coating evaluations.

Performs qualification of braze joints, weld joints, electrical discharge machined (EDM) surfaces, hardcoat, consumables, and operator certification.

This position will lead an engineering team in technical innovation, implementation, and support of operations special processes (plating, nitride, solution heat treat, DLC, etc). Preferred candidates will have knowledge and/or experience in material sciences / metallurgy, development of special processes and capabilities using leading edge technologies, ability to directly lead team consisting of engineers, technicians, specialists, and operators, ability to influence members at all levels within the organization, strong capital and financial acumen, strong troubleshooting skills including the use of statistical analysis.

Responsible for developing, leading, and managing a staff of manufacturing engineers and manufacturing specialists, to support the division in the effort to design, develop, and manufacture highly complex components. The incumbent will utilize his/her full resources and effort to continuously improve the cost of manufacturing and quality over the full life cycle of the product. The incumbent will routinely conceptualize, investigate, evaluate, and deploy as appropriate, new manufacturing technologies, methods, and systems, to improve the company's competitive position.
